I
INTRODUCTION
A. The Background of
the Study
A language is a part of the
culture of a people and the chief means by which the members of a society
communicate. A language, therefore, is a both a component of culture and a
central network through which the other components are expressed. According to
Wardhaugh (1974: 3) language is a system of arbitrary, vocal symbols which
permits all people in given culture, or other people who have learned the
system of that culture, to communicate or to interact.
English is the most important
language in the world. Hundres of million of people on five continents are
using the English language both passive and active, therefore it is not
surprising that it rapidly developed. Besides being the mother tongue of some
certain nations, the English language also serves as the official language in
many internasional meetings, as a liaison in the field of language education,
science, business and trade, technology and also in the field of tourism.
Every country has different
language, but they must learn English language to communication with the other
nation, because English language is as international language. If they make
cooperation or visit the other country they must use English language to
communication.
Field study program is one of
the tools of bringing the students to directly enter a field of study or
activiy.
Field
study program of Widya Dharma University for this year was in Green Villas
Hotel and Spa in Bali. It was held on May 18 th ,2014. In this field
study, students are taught by the instructor about table Manners. In Green
Villas Hotel and Spa table manners defined as the behaviour while eating with
the other people in formal events. It is important to learn as it helps people
succeed in their dinner invitation or other events with certain colleagues, the
soft skill discussed is how to have a good manner in eating which looks like
very simple but it takes some skills to be applies. In this study, field study
of table manner course in Green Villas Hotel and Spa Bali in 2014.
B. The Aims of the
Study
The aims of the Field Study Program are
:
1.
Students are able to
apply all the material obtained in college in the practiced field.
2.
Students can gain
knowledge about the English language and culture.
3.
To describe the
attitude in joining banquet in field study of table manner course in Green
Villas Hotel and Spa Bali in 2014.
C. The Use of the Study
After understanding the
result of the research, the writer hopes it can be removed and contributed to
all layers of society and able to answer the global challenges.
D. The Organization of
the Study
The
study organization is presented in order to give the direction of the study
arrangement. It also gives a description to the readers.
Chapter
I is introduction. It consists of the background of the study, the aims of the
study, the uses of the study and the organization of the study.
Chapter
II is the method of the study. It consists of the strategy of the research, the
data and the sources of data, the technique of collecting the data and the
technique of analysis the data.
Chapter
III is the result of the study. It consists of the analysis of the data and the
discussion of the findings.
Chapter
IV is conclusion, implication and suggestion. The writer would come to the
conclusion, implication and suggestion.
